On Monday, The England football association said that Liverpool will not release Mohamed Salah for Egypt’s coming World Cup qualifying matches because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Salah would be quarantined on his return from Cairo and will miss 2 Premier League games, as Egypt is on England’s red list.

On 2nd September Egypt is scheduled to play Angola in Cairo before facing Gabon 3 days later in Franceville.

The association said, “continues its contacts with the FIFA …. to have international players be exempted from travel restrictions imposed on them in countries where they play due to coronavirus .”

Salah has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot award twice, he tested positive for Covid-19 during a visit to Cairo in November, where he attended his brother’s wedding ceremony. At that time, he was to join the Egypt team for its match against Togo.

Mohamed Salah was the first player from Egypt who became a Premier League champion after joining Liverpool in 2018 from Roma. Liverpool is looking to strike a new deal to keep Salah with them.

Egypt sees Mohamed Salah as a sign of hope for a country battered by poverty and years of political turmoil.
