ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has emphasised the need for enhanced economic and cultural relations between Norway and Pakistan.

Talking to the outgoing Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan Kjell-Gunnar Eriksen, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday, the president said the two countries have huge potential to boost trade and economic cooperation for mutual benefits.

Norway has been a strong partner for investment, trade and development cooperation, the president said, adding that the presence of a large number of Norwegian companies in Pakistan was a testimony to the growing trade relations between the two countries.

The collaboration between Nizam Energy and Norwegian Scatec Solar to build a solar plant in Sukkur was a positive development that would encourage more Norwegian companies and investors to take advantage of the investor-friendly environment of Pakistan.

President Alvi also highlighted the brutalities being committed by the belligerent neighbour in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) against the Muslim population.

He emphasised that the international community needed to fulfil its commitment to grant the people of Kashmir their right to self-determination in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.

President Alvi thanked the Norwegian government for restoring and conserving the historical heritage in Lahore. He congratulated Eriksen on the completion of his tenure as ambassador and appreciated his efforts in promoting relations between the two countries in all fields, particularly in the economic and cultural sectors by establishing linkages with the government officials, as well as the private sector.
