A female traveler was arrested last week, at an airport in Hawaii for fabricating COVID-19 immunization documents after investigators got suspicious when they noticed Moderna was misspelled “Maderna.”

According to The Associated Press, Chloe Mrozak, 24, of Illinois, uploaded a vaccination card to Hawaii’s Safe Travels program before flying to Honolulu on a Southwest Airlines flight on August 23.

Screeners discovered suspicious flaws on Mrozak’s COVID-19 vaccination card, including the misspelling of Moderna and the fact that “her home was in Illinois yet her injection was taken in Delaware,” according to Hawaii Attorney General special agent Wilson Lau.

Lau checked with a Delaware health official that no one in the state with the woman’s name and birthdate received a vaccination shot. The agent also discovered that the travel information she gave regarding accommodations was incorrect.

On August 28, authorities discovered Mrozak at a Southwest Airlines counter at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. She was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of breaking Hawaii’s emergency measures to restrict the spread of COVID-19 after she was asked to show her ID and vaccination card.

Mrozak was released on Wednesday and has another hearing in three weeks.

Due to an increase in positive coronavirus infections in the state, Hawaiian officials began considering reintroducing tougher COVID-19 restrictions on visitors last week.
