According to the leaked documents from before, the social media giant has been very keenly involved in in covering up the posts including anti-Muslim content. Apart from the leaked information, Facebook’s former employees are currently complaining about its reckless behavior towards keeping a check on hateful speech, and ‘reports’ especially on Islamophobic content.

The leaked documents by the whistleblower, Frances Haugen further highlight that Facebook has been aware of the hateful content and religious violence videos all along, but never bothered addressing them directly or taking a stand against such posts.

Many critics observed that Facebook fails to take down offensive content especially when the posts involve religious violence done on behalf of Narendra Modi’s ‘Bharatiya Janata Party’, also known as BJP. It is also believed that the Prime Minister India, Modi and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg have some strange alliance against Muslims in India.

The photo below dates back to year 2015, when Modi came all the way to California to meet CEO Mark Zuckerberg; the photo raises suspicions regarding the meeting between them, showing the two hugging.

The document shows that India is the most “at risk countries” and that videos including languages Bengali and Hindi remain uncensored despite containing hate speech. However, upon revealing the facts, the company’s spokesperson in his defense said, Facebook has “invested significantly in technology to find hate speech in various languages, including Hindi and Bengali”, according to the reports from AP.

“Hate speech against marginalised groups, including Muslims, is on the rise globally. So we are improving enforcement and are committed to updating our policies as hate speech evolves online.” the person added.
