A total of 42 easyJet aircraft departing from Gatwick Airport will be fueled by a 30% Neste My Sustainable Aviation Fuel blend, with the first one departing earlier today.

This is the first time a departing Gatwick flight has used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as well as the first time any easyJet service from the UK has used SAF.

It reaffirms the commitment of all parties involved, including worldwide aviation fuel supplier Q8Aviation, easyJet, Gatwick Airport, and Neste, to achieve a net carbon emission reduction in aviation fuel and strive toward a net-zero emissions objective for aviation by 2050.

EasyJet flights from Gatwick to Glasgow will make up 39 of the 42 flights operating during the COP26 Climate Change Conference, which runs from October 31st to November 12th.

CO2 emissions will have been decreased by up to 70 tonnes across all 42 flights.

Q8Aviation has delivered the first delivery of Neste My Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Gatwick Airport’s fuel supply.

The process begins with Neste SAF being mixed with Jet A-1 fuel at a depot upstream of Gatwick Airport to generate a drop-in fuel that is compatible with current aircraft engines and airport infrastructure without needing further expenditure.

Q8Aviation then transports the gasoline to Gatwick Airport’s main storage tanks, where it will be distributed to easyJet aircraft via the airport’s hydrant system.
