Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 58th hat-trick as Portugal beat Luxembourg 5-0 in the World Cup Qualifying Group A.

Ronaldo took two penalties in the first 13 minutes and scored two goals before his hat-trick for the club and country. after he scored his third goal with a header that took him to 115 international goals.

As Portugal fell a point behind group leaders Serbia, who they will meet in the last round of fixtures, Bruno Fernandes and Palhinha both scored.

In the eighth minute, Bernardo Silva was fouled, prompting the first penalty, and five minutes later, Ronaldo was fouled inside the area and converted the second penalty. After Andr Silva invaded the area too early, he had to reclaim it.

Ronaldo also hit the post before Fernandes, a Manchester United teammate, made it 3-0 with just 18 minutes remaining.

Palhinha added a fourth goal in the 69th minute, just seconds after Ronaldo came near to scoring with a spectacular bicycle kick that was saved by Luxembourg goalie Anthony Moris.

However, the man who broke Iranian Ali Daei’s men’s international goalscoring record last month pulled even closer when he completed his hat trick three minutes from time.

After beating Azerbaijan 3-1 in Belgrade, Portugal advances to a straight shootout with Serbia for first place.
