BEIRUT – Visiting U.S. Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland announced on Thursday that her country will offer 67 million U.S. dollars in additional funds for the Lebanese army, al-Jadeed TV channel reported.

Nuland said the total support provided by the United States for the Lebanese army has reached 187 million dollars in 2021 while the humanitarian support stands at 300 million dollars.

Nuland’s remarks came during a press conference held at the Beirut airport after her visit to Lebanon for talks with the country’s officials and convey the U.S. support for it.

The U.S. senior diplomat noted that the United States was working with the Lebanese authorities, the World Bank, and humanitarian relief agencies to help the country through its deep economic crisis.

She offered condolences from the United States to Lebanon after violence erupted in the capital Beirut, resulting in eight deaths and several injuries.
