KARACHI: Police registered a case against a member of the Sindh assembly and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Jam Awais and his aides for allegedly torturing a man to death in the Malir Memon Goth area of Karachi, said Bol News on Thursday.

According to the police, Nazim Jokhio was allegedly killed for stopping a group of foreigners from illegally hunting the Houbara bustard in the area and making their video as evidence.

Police said that victim’s brother had lodged an FIR against MPA Awais and his aides at Memon Goth police station, adding that they had arrested two suspects from the site of the incident.

Medico-legal officer Dr Areeb, who conducted Nazim’s post-mortem, would release a report after reviewing chemical and pathology reports of his body samples.

Confirming that the victim was subjected to brutal torture, Dr Areeb said, “From head to toe, there was no part of his body without a mark of torture.”

“No man can bear such torture that the victim had to go through. However, it is necessary to have chemical and pathology reports for confirmation of the death,” he added.

Nazim’s brother, Fazal Jokhio said that his brother had tried to stop the foreign guests of MPA Awais from illegally hunting in the village. Following the incident, he added, “Sardar Jam Abdul Karim had ordered to bring his brother to the Jam House.”

“I was told to leave my brother at the Jam House. When I reached the house after some time, they told me that my brother had died,” said the brother of the victim, demanding from the PPP leadership to provide justice to him.

Fazal claimed his brother was tortured with sticks.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family members also held a protest along with the body on the National Highway and chanted slogans against PPP leader Awais.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the incident and directed the police to register an FIR. He also told authorities to conduct a transparent investigation in the case and bring the culprits to justice.
