Pakistani children win 10 gold medals in MWSC Inter-School Coastal Rowing Beach Sprint 2021

The second inter-school Coastal Rowing Beach Sprint Regatta concluded in Addu City, Maldives on Sunday. Pakistan’s rovers won 10 gold, four silver and one bronze medal in the event. Total 185 students and teachers from five schools participated in this sprint along with athletes from four clubs that featured teams from Pakistan, Maldives and Thailand.

According to a press release issued by the Karachi Boat Club (KBC), the 12-member team from Pakistan include students. This is the first time Pakistan has competed in the Coastal Rowing Beach Sprint Regatta.

“The event was to have rowers from India, Sri Lanka and Palestine as well, but for some reason, they couldn’t compete,” stated Pakistan Rowing Federation vice-President Malik Abdul Rahim Babai. “The rowing in the sea is like going into the wild waters and it is not very common in Pakistan, but we sent the team and it did well”.

The event featured competitions in the Under-15 Single Scull and Double Scull, Under-18 Boys and Girls and mixed categories.

In U-15 Girls Single Scull Fatima wadood won a gold medal, and Urooba Salahuddin won a Silver medal. In Double Scull, Fatima wadood and Urooba Salahuddin won a gold medal.

In the U-18 Girls, Single Scull Iman Shaikh won a gold medal. In Double Scull, Iman Shaikh and Huriya Faisal won a gold medal.

In U-15 Boys Single Scull Rayyan Imran won a gold medal, and Shayan Aziz won a silver medal. In Double Scull, Rayyan Imran and Hamza Naveed won a gold medal.

In U-16 Boys Single Scull Amaan Asad won a silver medal.

In U-18 Boys Single Scull Ensi Qiao won a gold medal. In Double Scull Ensi Qiao and Amaan Asad won a gold medal.

In U-18 Mix Double Scull Ensi Qiao and Huriya Faisal won a gold medal. Amaan Asad and Ensi Qiao won a gold medal.

In the Open category silver, Iman Shaikh and Huriya Faisal won a Bronze medal.
