Govt focused to provide sports facilities to youth: PM Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated on Saturday that the provision of sports facilities to youth was one of the top priorities of the government.

“The government is focused to provide sports facilities to youth,” said the premier while chairing a high-level meeting on the National Sports Policy and Overhauling of Sports Governance Structure in Islamabad.

He said that by increasing sports participation, the government was firm in its resolve to tap the potential of Pakistani youth, according to Radio Pakistan.

The meeting was apprised of the proposed revised structure of sports and coordination with the provinces for their input in the National Sports Policy.

The participants were also informed that Pakistan Sports Board’s Constitution had been re-drafted after a thorough review, and the comprehensive draft has been accorded a nod by the Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases.

The forum was apprised that provinces would provide facilities to sports clubs and associations for promoting games. The provinces would also focus on major sports on a priority basis.

The meeting was told that work on hockey turf in Islamabad was complete, while work on hockey turn in Wah Cantt, Faisalabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit was underway.

Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr Fahmida Mirza, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib, sports ministers of four provinces, chairman of Pakistan Sports Board and other relevant authorities participated in the meeting through video link.
