Over 700 people have been arrested as a consequence of a US Marshals-led investigation in Mississippi.

According to Fox 13 Memphis, the operation, which concentrated in northern Mississippi, resulted in the arrests, which included aggravated assault, homicide, aggravated domestic violence, child abuse, child sexual assault, unauthorized firearms crime, and other charges.

The operation, dubbed Operation MPACT (Mississippi Partnering Organizations Coming Together), was headed by the United States Marshals in collaboration with various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies from multiple counties in north Mississippi.

According to the study, 350 of the total arrests were for felony charges, with 56 being gang-related.

Law enforcement officers helping in the operation confiscated more than $134,000 in drugs and more than $50,000 in cash. In addition, 38 guns were confiscated.

The operation was carried out in reaction to a recent spike in violent crime linked to the movement of several criminal organizations from Chicago and Memphis to Mississippi.

Throughout the month of March, the operation proceeded to several sections of the state where crime had increased. According to U.S. Marshal Danny McKittrick, the operation will have a “long-term impact” on the state’s communities.

“I’d want to thank all of our partners personally for their unwavering support in making this operation a success,” McKittrick added. “I am certain that the historical outcomes of this operation, together with the community policing work of our local partners, will have a long-term impact on these communities here in the Northern District of Mississippi.”
