According to a recent revelation, US intelligence assisted Ukraine in thwarting a vital Russian aircraft mission.

The United States’ intelligence cooperation with the Ukrainian military has proven to be a game-changer, assisting them in both preventing and launching their own attacks.

According to NBC News, near the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, U.S. intelligence provided to Ukrainians assisted in the defeat of a Russian operation aimed at seizing control of Hostomel Airport near Kyiv by shooting down a Russian transport plane carrying hundreds of troops. Had Russia been able to keep control of the airport – its forces briefly controlled it — Moscow might have utilized it to address many of its supply and logistical issues.

Various US military and intelligence authorities have spoken in broad strokes about intelligence sharing with the Ukrainians while avoiding specifics.

A National Security Council spokeswoman told the publication in a statement, “We are regularly providing precise, timely intelligence to Ukrainians on the battlefield to assist them to defend their country against Russian aggression and will continue to do so.”

On April 5, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley testified before the House Armed Services Committee that “we have, and I’m not going to reveal in an open hearing… the intelligence we’ve collected and how we did it and all that, but this war has arguably been the most successful intelligence operation in military history.” And it’s just incredible, and that tale will be told sometime.

The chairman also stated that the United States played a big role in supplying Ukraine with the capabilities necessary to prevent Russia from gaining air superiority over Ukraine.

The fundamental significance of air defense systems in denying an opponent the capabilities to attain air superiority and supremacy — that’s been done by the Ukrainians, and it’s been done with a huge amount of help from the US with Stingers and other things, but also because of our intelligence feeds,” he added.

Ukraine has been able to deploy targeted air defense equipment or planes ahead of approaching attacks because of U.S. intelligence. According to one US official, “the Russian military has actually been cratering vacant areas where air defenses were originally built up.”

“We have done extensive intelligence cooperation and will continue to do so with the Ukrainians, notably when I met with President Zelensky in Kyiv in January.” “According to CIA Director William Burns, the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. “We shared with him knowledge we had at the time about some of the most vivid and alarming specifics of Russian planning for Kyiv, and we have done so every day since.”
