In a significant turn of events, the Lahore Traffic Police has announced a temporary reprieve for motorists with expired or foreign driving licenses. The decision comes in the wake of instructions from Chief Traffic Officer Mustansar Feroze, who has directed the traffic police not to register cases against individuals falling under certain categories.

According to the official statement released on [X], the Lahore Traffic Police will not file cases against motorists who possess valid learner’s permits, individuals with expired licenses, or those holding licenses from any other country. This move marks a departure from the previous announcement that imposed a Rs. 2,000 fine on individuals with valid learner’s permits.

While the statement did not explicitly address whether holders of expired driving licenses would face fines, it represents a significant development in the ongoing legal landscape surrounding driving licenses in Lahore.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) had previously issued orders for the authorities to take strict action against individuals driving without a valid license. Station House Officers (SHOs) were explicitly warned of severe consequences if they failed to implement the court’s orders in their respective areas.

This recent decision by the Lahore Traffic Police is likely to spark debates regarding the enforcement of traffic regulations and the balancing act between ensuring road safety and accommodating the challenges faced by individuals with expired or foreign licenses.

In a related move, the Punjab Education Department has issued a directive prohibiting students from bringing cars or motorcycles to school. School heads have been instructed to enforce this directive strictly, adding another layer to the evolving regulations governing transportation in the region.

On a separate note, the Punjab Excise Department has informed citizens that there will be delays in the issuance of vehicle registration cards by up to a month. The department attributed the delay to the tendering process, signaling potential challenges in administrative procedures that could affect vehicle owners.

As the situation continues to unfold, residents and motorists in Lahore will be closely watching for any updates or clarifications from the authorities regarding the enforcement and implications of these recent decisions.
