Fire erupts in furniture markets near Karachi’s Ayesha Manzil
KARACHI: A fire broke out in a furniture market near Ayesha Manzil area of Karachi and the rapidly spreading fire reached the upper floors of a 7-storey residential building.
Senior Superintendent of Police Central, the fire broke out in a bed mattress shop, and the fire also engulfed nearby shops.
SSP said that flats are built above the shops and efforts are being made to evacuate people from the building. He said more fire brigade vehicles have also been called.
According to fire brigade officials, 12 fire tenders, two snorkels, and a bowser are at the spot.
Rescue authorities, one person has been taken out of the building in a burnt condition, the other injured person has been shifted to Burns Ward Civil Hospital Karachi(CHK).
An affected shopkeeper said that the cylinder caught fire after leakage and later exploded.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started due to a short circuit in the foam mattress shop due to which the fire spread rapidly the fire reached the upper floors of the 7-storey residential building above the affected shops and smoke spread everywhere.
An eyewitness said that the building has more than 250 shops and about 450 residential flats. The fire broke out on the first street of the market, where there is a clothing shop.
