Google Hot Searches in the UAE for 2023
Every year, Google publishes its ‘Year in Search,’ which highlights the most-searched terms in a variety of categories, including news events and movies.
The global roundup includes cultural phenomena such as the films ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer,’ and ‘Jawan,’ as well as important events such as Marvel star Jeremy Renner’s life-threatening accident and global news subjects such as the Gaza crisis and the Titanic submarine’s June implosion.
In 2023, the Titanic submarine ranks sixth, and an earthquake in Morocco ranks in the top ten most-searched news phrases by UAE inhabitants.
The list of ‘local and regional events’ includes the Saudi Pro League, Gitex 2023 in Dubai, and others. Notably, COP28 has also made the top ten.
In pop culture, the films ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Jawan’ took the top slots, while ‘Barbie’ came close but fell short of the top 5.
In the area of TV shows, remakes of childhood classics (‘Wednesday’ and ‘One Piece’) and the Saudi comedy ‘Shabab Al Bomb’ took the top ranks.
The top five sporting events all revolved around cricket, with four Cricket World Cup matches and one T20 World Cup match.
Unsurprisingly, three cricketers were among the most-searched people in 2023: Rachin Ravindra from New Zealand, Shubman Gill from India, and Glenn Maxwell from Australia. Notably, UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, who spent six months in space, came in seventh place. Top of Form
As AI became more prominent in conversations in 2023, the most-searched platforms included ‘Generative AI platforms.’ Furthermore, once the deadline for mandatory registrations passed in October, a job loss insurance website gained traction.
