In a recent high-profile meeting in Karachi, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, holding key portfolios including excise, taxation, narcotics control, transport, and mass transit, unveiled an ambitious blueprint aimed at revolutionizing public transport connectivity in the city.

The centerpiece of this visionary plan is the integration of Karachi’s Orange and Green Lines through a network of shuttle services, set to be demonstrated shortly after Eid. This initiative represents a significant leap forward in enhancing accessibility and efficiency within the city’s public transport system.

As part of this initiative, a free shuttle service connecting Annu Bhai Park to Jinnah Women’s College has been announced. This move is complemented by the federal government’s commitment to providing 300 buses under the PSDP project, valued at Rs. 18 billion, to bolster public transport infrastructure and services.

During the meeting, Memon also addressed the delays plaguing the Red Line BRT project, attributing them to past negligence. However, he assured stakeholders of concerted efforts to expedite the project for the benefit of the public, underscoring the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

In addition to intra-city developments, Memon announced plans for an inter-city bus service under the Inter-District Transport Project, which involves procuring 500 buses. This initiative aims to facilitate seamless public transport connectivity between cities, further enhancing travel convenience for commuters.

Progress on the Yellow Line bus service, covering key routes from Karachi to Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas to Hyderabad, Larkana to Sukkur, and Larkana to Qambar Shahdadkot, is also gaining momentum. Anticipation is high among the public as they look forward to reaping the benefits of this expanded transport network.
