The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s KSE-100 index has continued its bullish trend, reaching an all-time high level and crossing the significant 67,100 barrier. As of Thursday, trading saw the benchmark stock index surging to a record high of 67,200, marking a gain of 653 points, or 0.98 percent, from the previous day’s close by 10:30 a.m..

This surge in the KSE-100 index is notable, considering that the index had previously peaked at 67,094 points in December 2023. The current upward trajectory reflects the positive sentiments among investors, attributed in part to the government’s active pursuit of privatization policies.

Additionally, investors are optimistic about the government’s recent agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is expected to secure $1.1 billion in funding. The agreement, reached during discussions led by an IMF team, signals a significant step forward in Pakistan’s stabilization program, supported by a $3 billion stand-by arrangement (SBA) approved in January 2024.

Nathan Porter, leading the IMF team, highlighted the importance of the agreement, stating, “This agreement is subject to approval by the IMF’s Executive Board, upon which the remaining access under the SBA, $1.1 billion (SDR 828 million), will become available.” The positive outlook stemming from this development has contributed to the buoyant mood in the stock market.
