Peshawar, KPK weather update; More Rains Expected

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating an increase in rain-wind/thunderstorm activity in Peshawar and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Thursday evening/night through Friday and Saturday.

A prevailing westerly wave over the central and upper regions of Pakistan is expected to persist until March 31, contributing to the anticipated weather conditions.

Areas likely to experience more rain, wind, and thunderstorms include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, and Waziristan. Heavy rainfall is expected in certain regions like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Abbottabad, and Mansehra during this period.

The PMD warns of potential landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to moderate to heavy rainfall. Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could also pose risks to agricultural activities and infrastructure, including electric poles and solar panels. Travelers and farmers are advised to exercise caution during this wet spell, which may also bring a drop in temperatures.

In Peshawar, maximum temperatures are forecast to range between 24-26 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday. Recent rainfall has already been recorded in parts of the province, with varying amounts reported across different areas.

As per the latest data, Parachinar received 13 mm of rainfall, while Dera Ismail Khan (Airport 11, City 09), Dir (Upper 11, Lower 02), Bannu 08, Chitral 07, and Peshawar (Airport 05, City 04) also experienced rainfall in the past 24 hours.
