The Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS), a crucial mobile phone registration service in Pakistan, will be unavailable until April 21, according to a recent announcement by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
DIRBS serves as a vital system designed to identify non-compliant mobile phones that are operating on local mobile networks. It functions by automatically registering compliant devices on these networks while eventually blocking non-compliant ones.
One of DIRBS’ primary objectives is to ensure the healthy growth of the mobile device ecosystem in Pakistan. By promoting the use of legal devices on mobile networks, it aims to improve the overall quality of mobile services for consumers, preserve network resources for mobile operators, enhance security measures, and safeguard intellectual property rights.
The registration process through DIRBS is mandatory for all overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals entering the country with mobile devices. Failure to register devices using this system can result in them being blocked from operating on mobile networks.
The PTA has issued a “maintenance alert,” notifying users that Mobile Device Registration and Verification Services will be under maintenance until Sunday, April 21, at 6:00 a.m. The inconvenience caused by this temporary suspension is regretted.
During this period, users are encouraged to plan accordingly and ensure their devices are registered with DIRBS once the services resume. This maintenance period reflects the commitment of regulatory authorities to maintain the efficiency and functionality of mobile device registration systems for the benefit of all stakeholders.
