Normal & urgent fee for Pakistani passport from July 2024; Check latest update here
In a move aimed at addressing backlog issues and improving efficiency, the government has announced a significant increase in passport fees in the fast-track category, alongside the introduction of 24-hour passport services in Karachi and Lahore.
Reports from media sources indicate that the revised fee structure reflects substantial increases across various passport categories based on page count.
Effective May 8, the fee for a 36-page machine-readable passport has risen to Rs 12,500. For applicants requiring more pages, the fee for a 72-page passport now stands at Rs 18,000, while a 100-page passport costs Rs 23,000.
Moreover, fees have been adjusted for individuals seeking passports with extended validity periods of 10 years. The fee for a 10-year machine-readable passport with 36 pages has been set at Rs 16,200, with fees for 72 and 100 pages increasing to Rs 25,200 and Rs 32,000, respectively.
On May 6, the Directorate General of Passports and Immigration implemented fee hikes across general and urgent passport processing categories.
Despite these fee adjustments, concerns persist regarding backlog issues and delays in passport application processing, frustrating many applicants. In response, the Ministry of Interior has taken steps to alleviate the situation by committing to keeping at least one passport office open 24 hours a day in both Lahore and Karachi.
