SHC allows reporters to cover court proceedings
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday allowed court reporters to report the court proceedings daily.
A hearing was held in the Sindh High Court on the petition against the ban on reporting of court proceedings.
The court stayed the implementation of the banning clauses of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s May 21 notification while allowing court reporters to conduct court reporting daily.
The SHC issued a notice to PEMRA, the Ministry of Information, and others and sought their reply by June 6.
The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court remarked that court reporters should also show responsibility in court reporting, broadcasting some remarks or observations gives a wrong impression of the judiciary.
The Sindh High Court adjourned further hearing of the case till June 6.
It should be remembered that a few days ago, the Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned court reporters from broadcasting court proceedings on the media, against which petitions were filed by journalists in different cities.
