Sindh Govt Expands People’s Bus Service Routes in Karachi
In response to Karachi’s transportation challenges, the Sindh government, led by Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, has taken proactive steps to enhance the people’s bus service in the city. This initiative aims to address the growing demand for efficient public transportation options.
During a recent meeting attended by elected MPAs from Karachi, the deputy mayor, and key officials, it was decided to introduce new bus routes in strategic locations across Karachi. These routes will cover areas such as Malir, Kemari, Lyari, and District West, with a notable addition being a route from Numaish to Hawkes Bay.
Sharjeel Memon reiterated the government’s commitment to improving public transport facilities for Karachi’s residents. Discussions during the meeting also highlighted plans for various Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects, upgrades to traffic signals, reconstruction of bus terminals, and the implementation of dedicated U-turns to streamline the People’s Bus Service.
A significant milestone was reached last month with the launch of the Automated Fare Collection System for the People’s Bus Service. The unveiling ceremony, organized by the Sindh transport department at a local hotel, showcased the advanced features of the prepaid card system.
These features include contactless payment options, reloadable balances, and seamless integration with multiple transit systems. Initially, this system has been integrated into buses operating from Model Colony to Tower and from Gulshan-i-Hadeed to Tower.
The introduction of these new routes and the modern fare collection system reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving Karachi’s public transportation infrastructure. These initiatives are aimed at providing commuters with greater convenience and efficiency, ensuring a smoother travel experience across the city.
