ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast monsoon rains in Sindh and eastern Balochistan on July 8 and 9. Significant monsoon rains are also predicted for the upper and central parts of Pakistan until mid-July.

Synoptic Situation:

Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave will also influence these areas from July 11.

Kashmir:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from July 10 to July 16, with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, and several districts including Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali from the evening/night of July 10 to July 15 with occasional gaps. Additional rain/thundershowers are predicted in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah from July 12 to July 14.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan from July 11 to July 15.

Balochistan:

Mainly hot and humid weather is forecast for most districts. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are predicted in eastern Balochistan (Khuzdar, Kalat, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, and Shirani) on July 8 and July 9, and from July 12 to July 14.

Sindh:

Mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most districts. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are predicted in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Larkana, Dadu, Padidan, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Sajawal, Thatta, and Karachi on July 8 and 9, with occasional gaps. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are also expected in Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad on July 12 and 13.

Gilgit-Baltistan:

Partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions are expected. Rainfall activity is predicted in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar from July 11 to July 15, with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

Heavy rainfall may raise water levels in streams in Murree, Galyat, Manshera, Kohistan, and Kashmir from July 12 to July 14. This heavy rain could also lead to urban flooding in northeastern Punjab. Landslides might disrupt traffic in the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
