Dubai rolls out 4-day work week plan

Dubai’s new pilot program for a 4-day work week during the summer reflects a broader trend toward flexible work arrangements aimed at improving employee well-being and productivity.

Starting August 12 and running until September 30, 15 government institutions will shift to a schedule of Friday to Sunday off and reduced daily hours of 7.

This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision of enhancing the quality of life for its residents and is part of the broader Quality of Life Strategy introduced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai.

This move follows similar experiments elsewhere, such as Sharjah’s 4-day work week introduced in 2022 and the UK’s extensive trials in the same year, where many companies have maintained the shortened work week.

The pilot scheme will be closely monitored by the Government Human Resources Department, which will assess its impact and gather feedback to determine its feasibility as a long-term solution for future summers.
