17th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto being observed today
KARACHI: The 17th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto, the first woman Prime Minister of the Islamic world, daughter of the East, is being observed today.
A main congregation will be held in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, the hometown and the resting place of the Bhutto family.
Benazir Bhutto, who became the prime minister of Pakistan twice, fought the dictatorships of General Zia and General Musharraf with her political opponents.
The former prime minister championed democracy, women’s rights, and economic reforms amid significant political turbulence.
Then on December 27, 2007, Benazir Bhutto, the beloved leader of the people, left the world in a fatal attack while returning from a rally in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.
On the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the martyred Ms. Benazir Bhutto, the arrival of workers and leaders continues in Larkana.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, Asifa Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shan and cabinet members have also reached Naudero.
Asif Ali Zardari attended the shrine in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh and recited Fatiha and laid flowers.
On the other hand, the arrangements for the anniversary meeting of Benazir Shaheed have been completed.
CCTV cameras have been installed around Garhi Khuda Bakhsh and surrounding areas by Larkana Police, and 8,500 police officers and personnel, including SSUs, ladies, traffic personnel and commandos have been deputed to ensure security.
