ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached out to leaders of various political parties, assuring them of the federal government’s full cooperation and institutional support in tackling the devastation caused by heavy monsoon rains and urban flooding.
In a telephone call to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the prime minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in southern Sindh, particularly in Karachi, due to torrential rains. He pledged the federal government’s complete assistance to the Sindh government in managing the emergency situation.
PM Shehbaz instructed the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to maintain close coordination with the Sindh government, extend maximum support to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and ensure timely early warnings for communities at risk.
The prime minister also held separate conversations with Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman and Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, reaffirming the government’s commitment to collective efforts in responding to the crisis.
Discussing with the Jamaat-e-Islami chief the damages caused by recent rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ongoing relief activities, Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated Al-Khidmat Foundation’s proactive role in rescue and relief operations.
He also discussed with Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui the recent rains and flood situation in Sindh, as well as potential risks from expected rainfall, assuring full cooperation from NDMA and other federal institutions to address any emergency situation.
