FBR suspends Afghan Transit Trade transportation from Karachi ports

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has ordered the suspension of Afghan Transit Trade transportation from Karachi ports until further notice.

The decision was made during an important meeting held at the Directorate of Transit Trade Headquarters, Customs House Karachi, chaired by the Director General of Afghan Transit Trade. Directors of Afghan Transit Quetta and Peshawar participated in the meeting via Zoom.

Following the meeting, Customs General Order No. 98/2025 was issued, stating that the movement of Afghan Transit Trade consignments has been suspended indefinitely due to capacity constraints at the Quetta and Peshawar customs stations, where no additional space is available to accommodate more containers.

Therefore, all the terminals should unload the containers of Afghan Transit Trade that have been loaded on the vehicles, along with canceling all the gate passes of Afghan Transit and stopping its transport, this order will remain in force until further notice.

After this order of Customs, all the terminals of Karachi Port and Port Qasim have stopped the clearance of Afghan Transit Trade.

According to customs sources, long queues of Transit Procedure (TP) containers have formed at the South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT), with hundreds of containers already loaded on trucks and many more stranded en route to Quetta and Peshawar, where drivers are waiting for the border to reopen.
