PMD confirms long-running dry spell continues across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The latest update from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirms a long-running dry spell is still dominating most of the nation.

Skies generally remain clear, but the onset of the colder season means residents in the northern highlands are already feeling a distinct sharp chill settling in overnight and through the early morning hours.

The weather in the capital territory of Islamabad is expected to be straightforward: settled and dry.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), most areas will also enjoy clear, dry conditions. That said, those venturing into the higher mountains must prepare for a significant drop in temperature, with noticeable cold returning after sunset.

The plains of Punjab are also experiencing dry weather. Popular hill resorts like Murree, Galiyat, and the adjacent areas will be dry, accompanied by chilly nights and mornings.

The dry weather in Punjab is unfortunately accompanied by a serious atmospheric concern. Smog is once again predicted to settle heavily, posing a significant health risk across numerous urban and industrial centers.

This critical warning applies to a long list of cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Okara, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, and Multan.

The day’s forecast for the majority of regions in both Sindh and Balochistan is for continued dry weather. Further southwest, the northern districts of Balochistan will experience the most pronounced temperature swings, with cold conditions expected to bookend the day.
