Federal Minister to Human Rights Shireen Mazari has written a letter to the head of United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Henrietta H. Fore, and has urged to remove Priyanka Chopra as a Goodwill ambassador over her pro-war statements.

According to details, Federal Minister demanded to identify Priyanka Chopra from the list of Goodwill ambassadors of UNICEF.

She pointed out that Chopra, who was announced as a global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2016, had publicly endorsed this position of the Indian government and also allegedly supported the nuclear threat issued to Pakistan by the Indian defence minister.

In the letter written to the  Head of Unicef Henrietta H. Fore, Mazari pointed to the ongoing crisis in occupied Kashmir, saying it was a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government’s violation of all international conventions that it is a signatory to, along with UN Security Council resolutions.

She alleged that India’s Hindu nationalist-led government was conducting a “campaign of ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Muslims” in occupied Kashmir.

“The Indian occupation forces have also intensified their campaign of using pellet guns against women and children as well as violence and abuse of women in IoK,” she wrote, adding that the Modi government’s policy was similar to the “Nazi doctrine of ethnic cleansing, racism, fascism and genocide”.

At a Beauty Con last week, Chopra was called out for her pro-war tweet by Ayesha Malik, a young woman from Pakistan who was not afraid to say, “You are a UNICEF ambassador for peace and you are encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan.”

Instead of a legitimate response, Chopra was condescending, saying, “Whenever you’re done venting. Got it, done? Okay cool.” This was after security snatched the mic from Malik.

“Girl, don’t yell, we’re all here for love. You’re embarrassing yourself,” said Chopra to the mic-less young woman.

Chopra has since drawn criticism for her response and reaction from Pakistani celebrities as well.

“Chopra’s response to her questioner in LA, as well as the February tweet, did have the effect of both shining a light on the crisis in Kashmir, and forcing many of us to think about celebrity activism, its uses — and its abuses.”, Mehwish said.

According to Mehwish. “It is human suffering that those with a platform must focus on. It also falls on other film industries, including my own in Pakistan, to counter the negative stereotypes pumped out in Bollywood… That might be less lucrative or effortless than the alternative, but it is what humanity needs to see — on screen, and on the streets.”

“It is something I would love to work with my Indian colleagues on – including Priyanka Chopra.”, Mehwish added.
