NAB to utilize all resources to eliminate corruption: Chairman NAB

The National Accountability Bureau chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said that taking mega corruption cases to their logical end is NAB’s utmost priority.

Chairing a meeting at NAB Lahore office, Javed Iqbal said that 600 corruption references were filed during the last 22 months and the money revered from the plunderers had been submitted in the national exchequer.

He reiterated that all resources are being utilized to eliminate corruption in the country.

While talking to media after the meeting Javed Iqbal said that the anti-corruption watchdog has prioritized conclusive end of the mega corruption cases in order to eliminate financial irregularities across the country.

He said that the approximate ratio of penalizing corrupt elements from the courts stands at 70 per cent while NAB is following the policy of reviewing the genre of the cases but not its fees.

“Rs71 billion has been submitted to the national exchequer which was recovered during the last 22 months and further steps are being adopted to uproot corruption. The institution has recovered billions of rupees from the illegal housing societies and returned to the affected people.”

Earlier, NAB Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed 600 corruption references in various accountability courts during the last 22 months,

On September 20, while chairing a meeting to review the performance of operation, prosecution, training, research, awareness and prevention divisions of NAB, he said NAB has devised an effective anti-corruption strategy to eradicate the menace of corruption from society.

He said that the figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations were almost double as compared to same period of 2018 to 2019.

He said that 1,210 corruption references were under-trial in different accountability courts that approximately valued at Rs900 billion.
