Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari while giving the updates regarding the PIC incident, tweeted “lawyers arrested and locked up but now 4 women lawyers released. More arrests will follow. Will keep updating.”

Earlier today, a violent clash between doctors and lawyers has intensified as a rally attended by hundreds of lawyers stormed Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore.

Six patients have so far died after the protest turned violent.

The tensed situation at the hospital spread fear among the patients when lawyers started attacking the PIC assets after raising slogans in different wards and some people entered into the operation theaters which led to the stoppage of the scheduled surgeries of cardiac patients.

PM takes notice of PIC attack

The dispute left four people injured when the lawyers broke windows of the emergency ward and several vehicles parked nearby.

A group of doctors and lawyers started pelting stones at each other in which four people sustained wounds.

The paramedics and physicians were seen making attempts to run out of the hospital premises in order to save their lives.

Police at first exchanged harsh words to clear out the dispute.

Later, as the police appeared helpless in resisting the charged lawyers, resorted to tear-gas shelling to disperse them.

An elderly female patient Gulshan Bibi died when doctors had left the ward during the clash. Other patients seemed in a state of fear and panic.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident and has sought an initial report immediately.

Buzdar stated that nobody was above the Law and such incident in the medical facility for heart patients was unbearable.

Dr. Asif, Patron-in-Chief of Young Doctors Association (YDA), told that the physicians and nurses were attacked and brutally tortured by the lawyers at the PIC hospital.

He alleged that the situation turned violent when some lawyers raised slogans to kill the doctors.

He detailed that the outrageous lawyers are still present in the hospital and no action has been taken by the authorities so far to control the worsening situation.
