Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and senior lawyer, Aitzaz Ahsan strictly condemns the acts of lawyers who attacked the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), Lahore on Wednesday.

Speaking to media, Aitzaz Ahsan termed lawyers’ violence a “shameful” act, adding that there were many lawyers among the protesters who would be contesting elections in January.

“They are destroying defaming the legal fraternity and my head is bowed with shame. They shouldn’t be allowed to contest the polls, nor should anyone vote for them,” he added.

The senior lawyer said the Punjab Bar Council should have not given the strike call.

Holding the government responsible over the act, Aitzaz Ahsan said the government had to take action, when the lawyers were marching to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, in large number.

Yesterday, a violent clash between doctors and lawyers has intensified as a rally attended by hundreds of lawyers stormed Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore.

Six patients were died after the protest turned violent.

The dispute left four people injured when the lawyers broke windows of the emergency ward and several vehicles parked nearby.

Two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against more than 200 lawyers who attacked PIC on Wednesday.

According to the FIRs, the lawyers were allegedly involved in torturing police officials, aerial firing and setting a police vehicle on fire.

The lawyers on the call of Punjab Bar Council observing strike over the arrest of their colleagues.

The lawyers have decided to protest if their colleagues were not released.

According to sources, more than 30 protesting lawyers were arrested by the police with the help of CCTV footage.

Moreover, the lawyers who attacked PIC also tortured information and culture minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan as he reached the spot to settle down the ongoing dispute.

Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan was taken from his head and was beaten by the lawyers.

His videos of getting tortured and violence spread like a fire on social media platforms and TV channels.
