Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa has lauded the efforts of Rotary International in the eradication of polio in Pakistan.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army Chief met with Rotary International’s four-member team.

During the meeting, measures related to healthcare in Pakistan and the country’s battle against polio virus were discussed.

Army Chief expressed the hope that the collective efforts will lead to completely rooting out the disease from Pakistan.

It is to be noted that Pakistan is one of the three remaining countries in the world where poliomyelitis (polio) is still categorized as an endemic viral infection, the others being Afghanistan and Nigeria.

As of 29 January 2020, there have been 139 documented in 2019 and 4 cases in 2020 including 91 cases in KP, 24 cases in Sindh, eight in Punjab and 11 in Balochistan.
