Govt. bans Youm-e-Ali processions today, Sindh observing strict lockdown

Sindh government has imposed a strict lockdown across the province today (Friday) till 3 pm.

According to the details, another major decision has been taken by the Sindh government to protect the public in view of the coronavirus, the orders have been issued to tighten the lockdown from 12 noon to 3 pm on May 15.

Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said in a statement that the Sindh government has decided to keep all shops closed till 3pm on tomorrow.

Moreover, the government has imposed ban on processions in following Coronavirus precautionary measures, which meant the province will see no Youm-e-Ali gatherings on Friday.

The processions are held on the 21st of Ramadan to mark the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA).

According to a notification issued, all sorts of religious gatherings are already banned across the province in the wake of the pandemic.

The Punjab government has also banned Youm-e-Ali processions across the province.

However, indoor majalis can be held with strict adherence to the SOPs agreed upon between the federal government and religious leaders and scholars.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while briefing media officials had said that he had instructed the police not to impose any limitations in mosques.

CM Sindh had also said that mosques would remain open where designated people would offer prayers. The rest of the people are requested to offer prayers at their homes.

It is to be noted that even before this, in view of the coronavirus, the Sindh government had announced to limit the Friday prayer gathering and complete lockdown from 12 noon to 3 pm to protect the people.
