The Federal Government has decided to initiate a special anti-polio immunization drive from July 20, after 58 cases of disabling disease have been reported in Pakistan during the current year.

The immunization campaign will be launched in four provinces of the country according to sources, especially in areas that have reported increasing cases of polio.

The sources in the health department said,

“The campaign is titled a targeted response campaign and will begin from July 20.”

The immunization campaign will cover 800,000 children throughout the country, and the campaign will be specifically aimed at Karachi, Quetta, Faisalabad, and South Waziristan.

The sources revealed,

“10 union councils of Quetta and 55 union councils of Faisalabad will be covered during the anti-polio campaign.”

It is appropriate to mention here that on June 11, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), and Microsoft Founder and Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates discussed the anti-polio drive in Pakistan during a telephone conversation.
