Korangi: Building collapses leaves 1 dead, 7 injured; death toll to rise

A multi-storey residential building collapsed in Korangi’s Allah Wala Town has left one dead and seven injured on Thursday.

At least seven injured were recovered from under the rubble and rescue operation is underway, police said.

According to the residents of the area, 15 to 20 families were living in the ill-fated building. However, more than 20 people are still feared under the debris.

Police and Rangers have arrived at the location and cordoned off the area.

The DHO said that medical treatment was being provided to those pulled out, adding that women and children were among them.

According to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officials, the collapsed building was illegally constructed on 80 sq yards.

Two more buildings got damaged due to the incident, SBCA officials said.

Four Injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital. The injured were identified as Ayub, 60, Nisha, 40, Nazish, 18, and Rani Iqbal, 35, Jinnah hospital spokesperson told.

According to the district administration, the multi-storied building had started sinking into the ground and had been “emptied” on the orders of the deputy commissioner two days ago.

The officials said that as per the latest update, only one family was currently living in the building while the others had vacated it.

Earlier, Building collapse incident in Karachi’s area Layari has left at least 13 people dead.

The body of a 32-year old woman had recovered by rescue workers.

Moreover, a five-storey building had collapsed in Kalri area of Lyari leaving its residents stuck under the debris.

The incident claimed as many as 22 lives.

Pakistan Rangers – Sindh and local police had used heavy machinery to lift up heavy concrete slabs which helped them recover the people buried under the rubble.
