Pakistan has recorded 55 more deaths due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours bringing the national death tally to 10,772.

According to the COVID-19 Dashboard, with the fresh inclusion of 2,123 cases, the national coronavirus toll hits 508,824.

As many as 2,973 people have been recovered from the dread virus taking the recovery toll to 464,950.

The total number of active cases is 33,102.

So far Sindh has reported a total of 228,949 infections, Punjab 146,525, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 62,018, Balochistan 18,467, Islamabad 39,462, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 8,521, and Gilgit Baltistan 4,882.

COVID-19 vaccine

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan in his interview to foreign media said Pakistan is hopeful to receive the first batch of Chinese COVID-19 vaccine early next month.

He said the government intends to begin the process of vaccination within the first quarter of this year. Dr. Faisal Sultan said the government is looking at multiple options and is in touch with all companies whose vaccines have been approved internationally.

He said the National Command and Operation Center has started registering frontline health care workers who will be vaccinated in the first phase.

Intra-Sindh communication task team

Let it be known that on Tuesday, the provincial government has constituted a 16-member intra-Sindh communication task team that will put in efforts to stop the spread of Covid in its second wave.

The secretary of the committee will be Ikram Sultan according to the new notification.
