Int’l Day to Combat Islamophobia being observed in Pakistan and other areas today
Pakistan and member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are observing International Day to combat Islamophobia today (Monday).
According to details, a high-level event will be held on March 17 in New York by OIC.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said today that Pakistan has always supported and continues to lead international efforts for building bridges between cultures and civilizations.
He added that through the observance of this day, we want to build a better understanding of Islam and Islamic precepts. He said we intend to send a message of international solidarity and cooperation. He said we remain determined to promote values of peaceful coexistence as well as interfaith and cultural harmony.
Moreover, Zahid Hafeez further said that the OIC’s unanimous support for the designation of this day is a reflection of the sentiments of billions of Muslims around the world.
Apart from that, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has been the leading international voice in raising awareness on the grave consequences of rising systematic Islamophobia and in promoting interfaith harmony.
According to details, Pakistan had proposed a resolution to designate March 15 as the International Day to fight Islamophobia at the 47th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Niamey, Niger last year. The idea was unanimously agreed upon.
