President Alvi sheds light on women empowerment through better health, education
President Arif Alvi has shed light on women’s empowerment, saying it is possible through better health, education, hereditary rights as well as financial independence.
He was addressing a ceremony held on the occasion of International Women’s Day in Islamabad on Monday. He said that the present government has passed several laws to empower women.
Furthermore, Alvi said that a Telehealth system should be developed under which women can consult doctors and seek basic advice through telephone. He also stressed reducing the female dropout level in education as well as employment.
He added that the laws for women’s rights are not being implemented although they exist in the country.
The president further said that the current government is taking steps to ensure their implementation, including the law of hereditary rights of women.
Moreover, President Alvi also highlighted the importance of the financial independence of women. He said that the government has started a program in which banks are offering loans up to five million rupees to a woman entrepreneur. Under the PTI government’s Ehsaas program as well, he said, most of the funds are being disbursed among women.
