Tariq Banuri To Be Removed As HEC Chairman Under New Ordinance

The government has decided to replace Tariq Banuri as Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman under the new laws.

According to sources, HEC Chairman will be replaced under the new ordinance which states that the ownership of the HEC chairman will be from two to four years.

However, a final approval in this regard will be given by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Back in 2018, Dr Tariq Banuri was appointed by former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi till May 2022.

According to reports, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had begun to take action against the HEC Chairman after he was accused of misusing his powers.

NAB had accused the HEC Chairman of illegal appointments and corruption.

Earlier, the Higher Education Commission had asked all Vice-Chancellors and Rectors across the country to strictly ensure the verification of their educational documents to prevent Pakistanis going to work in the UAE from getting into any trouble.

HEC Assistant Director (Coordination) Sadaf Tahir in a letter to the heads of universities said that the UAE Federal National Council has passed a new draft law which outlines severe penalties for obtaining employment in public Germany and private companies or for any other purpose through using forged/fake degrees and education certificates.
