Education and health ministers will be meeting at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) today to decide whether to open or further close schools.

According to the details, in light of the ongoing spread of the third wave of the coronavirus in Pakistan, NCOC meeting will discuss the schools closure and examinations.

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on April 4th tweeted about today’s meeting and said that decision will be taken collectively by country’s health and education authorities.

The closure was extended in high-risk areas and specific districts of Pakistan until April 11. Federal Minister for Education had back then announced that examinations would be held as per schedule, but the Cambridge authorities would be contacted to delay O and A level exams.

Following concerns expressed by thousands of Pakistani students, Mahmood said the Cambridge International agreed to reschedule O level exams to after May 15.

However, on March 29, it was announced that O level/IGCSE exams in Pakistan will be held from May 10 following consultations with Cambridge International.

It merits mentioning herer that according to the National Command and Operations Center, the total number of deaths from coronavirus in Pakistan has reached 14,924 while the total number of affected people has jumped to 696,184.

The number of active cases across the country now stands at 63,102. Whereas 618,158 people have recovered from the disease so far.
