Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has directed the rescue departments to immediately drain out the rainwater from the low-lying areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad after heavy rain triggered flash flooding all across the city.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and other rescue departments have been directed to put relief arrangements in place after the overnight heavy rains lashed the Sector E11 of Islamabad inundated with fears of nullahs flooding.

Two people, a woman and her child died when water entered the house.

The civil administration along with the armed forces are involved in the rescue operation in the E-11 sector and using heavy machinery to drain the water from the streets.

The traffic police also shared an update that all roads in Islamabad have been opened for traffic and are witnessing the usual flow.

Moreover, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams were working to clear the roads. All the teams are still in the field to clear excessive water. The machinery is working on maximum locations for clearance.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army troops are busy assisting civil administration in rescue and relief efforts. Contingency plans are in place to meet any flood situation, it added.
