KARACHI: Arrangements for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) rally at the Bagh-e-Jinnah in Karachi have been completed to mark the 14th anniversary of the horrific bomb attack on late Benazir Bhutto’s caravan on Karsaz Road, which took 177 innocent lives on October 18, 2007.

The public gathering will be addressed by the PPP’s senior leaders, including the party chairman and son of Benazir Bhutto, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, BOL News reported.

According to the PPP media cell, saluting the victims of the Karsaz tragedy, Bilawal Zardari said that PPP is the heir of all martyrs who sacrificed for the country and democracy.

The rally is being held on October 17, instead of 18, in respect of preparations for 12th Rabbi ul Awwal (Oct 19), when birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammed (SAWW) is observed.

Note that October 18 marks the 14th anniversary of the carnage, fourteen years ago on this day, 177 people were killed in bomb blasts on the return of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, including a private TV cameraman who died in the line of duty.

The victims of the tragedy are still waiting for justice. Pakistan’s first female PM, Benazir Bhutto had arrived at Karachi Airport on October 18, 2007, after eight years of exile.

A huge crowd of people was present to receive Benazir Bhutto, who was supposed to go to Bilawal House from Karachi Airport as per the plan.

The PPP jiyalas had reached Karachi from all over the country to welcome the former prime minister on her return to home. When Benazir Bhutto’s convoy reached Karsaz Road, a loud explosion ripped through the caravan. Government agencies had blamed al-Qaeda chief Fahd Muhammad Ali Muslim and Amir Baitullah Mehsud of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, who was later killed in drone strikes.

Two cases were registered at the Bahadurabad police station. One case was registered on behalf of the government and the other on complaint of Benazir Bhutto herself.
