ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said the country was facing load-shedding as the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government neither purchased fuel in time nor repaired power plants.

In a tweet, he said costly power generation through inefficient plants was costing the people 100 billion rupees per month. He said, “We are fixing the problem.”

The prime minister said that the government of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif had ended the worst load-shedding in five years.

On April 24, Shehbaz Sharif had directed to take emergency measures to significantly reduce load-shedding by May as he had blamed the policies of the Imran Khan government for power outages.

PM Shehbaz had said he would not sit back till the problem was resolved. He had directed to make every possible effort to provide relief to the people from the pain caused by the criminal negligence of the previous government.

He had said interim measures should be taken till a sufficient amount of oil and gas was arranged. He had said, “What an irony it is that the Imran government shut down the most efficient and affordable power plants installed by PML-N government and used expensive and inefficient plants.”

He had claimed that the previous rulers hatched a conspiracy to bankrupt Pakistan’s economy by destroying the energy sector.
