One killed, eight injured in Karachi blast

KARACHI: At least one person was killed and eight other people got injured in a blast that took place in Saddar area of Karachi on Thursday night.

Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Director Dr Shahid Rasool said the deceased and eight injured were brought to the JPMC by Edhi ambulance service for an autopsy and medical treatment respectively. He said most of them were hurt because of ball bearings of the bomb. The wounded were in critical condition, he maintained. A dozen vehicles were reportedly damaged in the blast. Rescue sources said the deceased has been identified as Umar. Condition of one of the injured, Shehroze, is reportedly highly critical.

A surveillance camera footage shows that the target of the blast could be a Pakistan Coast Guard vehicle parked near the United Bakery.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought a report on the incident from the Karachi commissioner and additional inspector general. The chief minister directed police, rangers and district administration to reach at the site of the blast and help in rescue efforts.

Murad Ali Shah has directed to investigate the incident from every aspect. He ordered to declare emergency at the JPMC and Civil Hospital. The wounded should be given the best medical treatment, he said.

Sindh Governornment Spokesperson and Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab confirmed the incident and said that investigation had been launched and soon the details would be made public.
