KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the inspection historical Mules Mansion building through the technical committee of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
While hearing the case of declaring the historic building Mules Mansion as dangerous, court remarked that inspection of the building should be carried out by the technical committee of SBCA which inspects the buildings declared dangerous.
The court observed that Department of Archaeology, the petitioner, and other relevant authorities should be present during the inspection.
The court sought a report that what steps have been taken to restore the building to its original condition. The building should be inspected and a report regarding the current situation should also be submitted in the court.
The court directed to submit the report within 15 days after the inspection of the building.
Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi remarked that historical buildings and archeological sites are protected around the world but in Pakistan, authorities are waiting to collapse the building.
He asked what the Department of Cultural and Heritage is doing.
The court remarked that take custody of the building or hand it over to the owner.
The court adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
The lawyer of the petitioner said the Mules Mansion building was built in 1929 and the government declared the building dangerous in 1984.
The lawyer pleaded that the building is in a dismal state and inspection should be ordered.
