ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar submitted his response in the contempt of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) case to the Supreme Court (SC).

As per details, Asad Umar submitted the reply in the contempt case against him, Fawad Chaudhry and PTI Chief Imran Khan. In the reply, Umar maintained that the show-cause notice sent by ECP is illegal and unconstitutional.

In a written reply to the Supreme Court, it was stated that Article 204 empowers the High Judiciary with contempt of court. The Election Commission is not a court. The commission cannot use the power of contempt of court under Article 204. Section 10 of the Election Act is inconsistent with the Constitution.

In a written reply, Asad Umar requested the court to declare Section 10 of the Election Act unconstitutional. The Election Commission’s appeal should be rejected.
