ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif while taking notice of the countrywide electricity breakdown ordered high-level investigations into the matter.

The prime minister has also formed a committee for the probe into the matter and asked for an immediate report from Minister of Energy Khurram Dastagir.

The premier inquired about the sudden countrywide breakdown and instructed to determine the responsible persons.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also said that the electricity supply must be ensured immediately adding that the suffering of the nation is intolerable.

Pertinently, Pakistan has been hit by a massive power breakdown in the early hours on Monday and almost all major cities were deprived of electricity.

The cities including Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, and Islamabad were facing the outage.

The Ministry of Energy said that the initial reports revealed the system frequency of the National Grid decreased at 7:34 this morning, which resulted in a widespread breakdown in the power system.

A countrywide electricity breakdown hits major cities including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta as a high-tension power line between Quetta and Guddu tripped.
