ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned efforts to evict Sheikh Rashid Ahmed from his Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi.

In a tweet, PTI Secretary-General Asad Umar said in order to put pressure on Sheikh Rashid, the government is planning to attack and vandalize his house with state machinery.

He said the PTI strongly condemns this “illegal terrorism” and stands in solidarity with Sheikh Rashid.

A civil court in Rawalpindi rejected Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s petition challenging the evacuation order from Lal Haveli.

Civil Judge Rawalpind Naveed Akhtar Lohan rejected the application of former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to stop action against Lal Haveli.

The judge remarked that the judiciary cannot interfere in administrative matters and could not stop any department from taking action under the law.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) warned the former interior ministry to vacate the Lal Haveli by 31 January or it would take action.

Sheikh Rashid had filed an application in a civil court requested to stop action against Lal Haveli. He told the court that he was the real owner of the building.

The court rejected his application and remarked that the judiciary cannot interfere in administrative matters.

Sheikh Rashid denied the claims of the district administration and said that he had the legal right to the property. He argued that the evacuation of Lal Haveli was political victimization and part of settling the score against him.

The ETPB has sought the land revenue record of Lal Haveli from the land revenue branch of the district administration to verify the claim of ownership.

The ETPB has written a letter to Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi, to help the district administration to vacate the historic building.  The ETPB has sought police assistance to get the possession of Lal Haveli.
