KARACHI: The Provincial Election Commissioner Ejaz Chohan said Monday – while briefing on the delay in LG polls results – the outcomes of 246 union committees will be announced by the evening today.

He was addressing the media when said that the results of the LG polls are being prepared.

The provincial commissioner said that the electoral body gave instructions to make the process transparent and no officer commit any irregularity in the elections.

He also assured that strict action will be taken in case of any violation.

Touching on the delay, he said that polling continued till 6pm at some polling stations so the counting process started late (7pm) and at some stations nearly around 9pm.

“There were many challenges in the local body elections, however, the election commission constitutionally performed its responsibility.”

He also said that the second phase of the polls remained peaceful and the voters were allowed to exercise their rights.

Pertinently, the results of the LG polls that took place in Karachi, Hyderabad and other districts of Sindh have been facing a delay and political parties like JI and PTI are attributing the delay to forging in results.
